Qatar refused bail to Manuel Guerrero, who was arrested because of his homosexuality

The Qatari judiciary has decided not to grant bail to Mexican Manuel Guerrero, who has been imprisoned in the country since February because of his homosexuality.

Manuel’s brother, Enrique Guerrero, said during a news conference that he did not receive the medication he needed to live with HIV while in prison.

According to Enrique’s statements, the claims of LGBTI+ community activists and family members asking the embassies of the United Kingdom and Mexico for help because they have dual citizenship have not been listened to and the Middle Eastern country has not agreed.

The man will remain in prison for at least another 30 days, said Enrique Guerrero.

When was Manuel Guerrero arrested in Qatar?

Manuel Guerrero was arrested on February 4 in Doha, the capital of Qatar, after attending an appointment made by request. To his surprise, the Qatari police received him there.

Qatari authorities were tasked with creating a fake profile and calling on Manuel to work with more people from the LGBTI community. Shortly after the meeting, a Moroccan arrived and was also arrested along with Manuel. He currently remains incarcerated.

As if that wasn’t enough, they injected methamphetamine into both of their shoes to frame them.

According to various media outlets, Manuel was psychologically tortured and spends many hours without water or food. They do not allow him to cut his hair or nails because they believe that doing so could infect other people who are deprived of their freedom with HIV.

The case caused great outrage in various countries. Various LGBTI groups and family members demanded that the governments of the United Kingdom and Mexico stand up for Manuel, who has Mexican and British citizenship.
