Almost a hundred dead in a shipwreck north of Mozambique

The shipwreck of the fishing boat in which About 130 people were fleeing a cholera outbreak from Lunga to Nampula (northern Mozambique) has so far been completed 94 dead, many of them children.

Cholera is spreading throughout Africa

According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Mozambique is currently experiencing “the largest cholera outbreak in the last 25 years”. The World Health Organization (WHO) warned last February of a severe increase in cholera cases in a dozen countries in eastern and southern Africa and that there was a significant risk that the disease would spread further and cause an epidemic.

The most affected countries are Zambia and Zimbabwewhile Mozambique, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo are also recording active outbreaks of the disease.
