Sony has just formalized the acquisition of Bluepoint Games, a studio renowned for its remakes and remastered of cult Playstation titles, such as Shadow of The Colossus or Demon’s Souls on PS5.
With Microsoft’s record $ 7.5 billion buyout of Bethesda, it’s hard to compete for Sony. Despite everything, the publisher can count on Playstation Studios, its exclusives makers like Insomniac Games, the dads of Rachet & Clank Rift Apart and Spider-Man games, Sucker Punch Productions (Ghost of Tsushima), Housemarque (Returnal) or Santa Monica Studio, currently at work on God of War: Ragnarok.
And since the Microsoft operation, Sony has also made sure to swell its ranks. After the recent takeover of Housemarque, the Japanese company announces this Wednesday, September 30, 2021 lacquisition of Bluepoint Games. A Sony partner for many years, the Austin, Texas-based studio has built a solid reputation in the art of creating quality remakes and remastered.
Sony buys studio behind Demon’s Souls remake
Players owe them, for example, the sumptuous remake of Demon’s Souls on PS5, the impeccable remastered of Shadow of the Colossus on PS4 or Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, the remastered which brings together the first three Uncharted on PS4. Of course, we imagine that the expertise of the studio in the field will be used, perhaps on other remastered and remakes to come.
Good news however, since the studio assured our colleagues from the IGN site that he was also going to develop his own games, in addition to possible revamps of cult games: “Our next project, we’re working hard on some original content right now. We can’t talk about what it is, but it’s the next evolutionary step for us ”. No details have been leaked for the moment on the amount of the buyout of Bluepoint Games.
As a reminder, Sony has announced the arrival of several remastered in 2022, starting with the Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection compilation on PS5, which will allow you to (re) play Uncharted 4 and Uncharted Lost Legacy in a version optimized for the PS5. The cult Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic will also be getting a PS5-exclusive remastered.
