Prosecutors seek 18 years in prison for man who killed man with screwdriver

The lawyer for the victim’s family, Jorge Barrerasaid yes Underlined that this is a very significant advance and has highlighted the work of the Office of the Attorney General Homicide squad led by Carlos Negro and the police.

Barrera stated that they are currently exploring the possibility of a simplified agreement. “A prison sentence of 18 years has already been requested, now the defendant’s defense has ten days to respond, then ten days later there will be a summons to the hearing,” he said.

According to the lawyer, the verdict will be announced at the end of April or beginning of May.

The crime occurred in April 2023 on Joanicó and Felipe Sanguinetti streets, in the La Unión district of Montevideo. The 34-year-old man was attacked with a screwdriver.
