Petro has also asked the attorney general to "free our youth"remembering the young people detained in the 2021 protests.
Regarding the Colombian economy, he has emphasized that it will develop capitalism. "We are going to develop capitalism in Colombia, not because we adore it, but because we first have to overcome pre-modernity in Colombia, feudalism, the new slavery"he has asserted.
In this sense, he stressed that his Executive seeks "a productive economy that creates jobs and production".
On the other hand, he has indicated that he wants Colombia to be at the forefront of the world in the fight against climate change. "I propose to the Government of the United States and all the governments of Latin America to accelerate the steps of the energy transition"Petro has indicated.
"Today it is imposed that Colombia try to save the Amazon jungle in order to save humanity"highlighted the president.

Petro has obtained a historic victory for the left, which for the first time manages to gain access to the Casa de Nariño, seat of the Colombian Presidency. Petro will succeed the current president of Colombia, Iván Duque, starting on August 7.
