Óscar de la Hoya sentences: Canelo vs Munguía is inevitable

Canelo Álvarez only has in mind the rematch against Dmitry Bivol, However, the World Boxing Council will not allow the fight due to the ban on Russian athletes due to the War in Ukraine, so it must analyze other options.

The promoter of Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar de la hoya considers that a good fight for the man from Jalisco is to face his compatriot Jaime Munguía, who will debut at 168 pounds against Sergiy Derevyanchenko on June 10.

“What’s holding him back is that Canelo doesn’t want to fight another Mexican fighter, which is a bit absurd.”De La Hoya said in an interview with Boxing Scene. “Because if you are a fighter, you are a fighter. You fight whoever is on top. You fight anyone who gets in your way and they will create a great fight for you. Munguía is right there knocking on his door.

For De La Hoya, the fight between Canelo and Munguía is inevitable, and the ‘Golden Boy’ himself assured that he is going to put pressure and he’s going to do what’s in his power to get both boxers into the ring.

Keep Mexican boxing alive

One of the reasons why De la Hoya believes that the fight should take place because there has not been a fight between two great Mexican boxers for a long time.and that this would revive Mexican boxing.

“I firmly believe that Álvarez vs. Munguia, a confrontation between Mexicans, is inevitable. Boxing hasn’t had two Mexican warriors collide in recent times. Alvarez vs. Munguia has to happen in the near future to keep Mexican boxing alive, thriving and bigger than ever.
