Olivares and Waters contribute home runs; Royals sweep Twins

Olivares y Waters aportan cuadrangulares; los Reales barren a Mellizos

Edward Olivares and Drew Waters each homered, Jonathan Heasley pitched two-hit ball in six innings and the Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins 4-1 Thursday to complete a three-game series sweep.

Salvador Perez also drove in a run for Kansas City. He has produced at least one in seven straight duels.

Brad Keller finished with a three-hit, no-hitter out of the bullpen for his first career save.

Kansas City hadn’t swept a three-game series since July 2021. Doing it against the Twins left them with virtually no hope of advancing to the playoffs.

Just two weeks ago, Minnesota was deep in contention in the AL Central but lost eight of nine games on the road.

Rookie Josh Winder (4-5) allowed three runs on six hits in six innings.

Heasley (4-8) retired his first 10 opponents, striking out four of five. After accepting a single from Puerto Rican Carlos Correa, he put out his next two opponents, ending the inning.

For the Twins, the Venezuelan Luis Arráez 4-1. The Puerto Ricans Correa 4-1, José Miranda 4-0. Colombian Gio Urshela 4-0. The Dominican Gilberto Celestino 2-0.

For the Royals, the Venezuelans Pérez 3-1 with an RBI, Olivares 3-1 with a run scored and an RBI.
