Mystery Surrounds Arrest of Notorious La Barra House Robber

A Maldonado court has handed down a 180-day pretrial detention order to a 45-year-old suspect, who was arrested in connection with a string of crimes committed in the area.

Background of the Case

The authorities had been searching for the suspect in connection with 11 house robberies in Punta Ballena and La Barra, as well as the kidnapping of a police officer. The suspect has a prior record and was eventually identified after leaving behind a crucial piece of evidence.

The Breakthrough in the Investigation

A backpack containing tools was discovered at the scene of one of the robberies, and further investigation revealed that one of the tools had been purchased at a hardware store in the Solanas area. This lead allowed investigators to identify the suspect.

Arrest and Charges

The suspect was spotted exhibiting suspicious behavior the day before his arrest. When approached by the police, he became aggressive, stole an officer’s gun, and fled the scene. He was eventually apprehended while riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle in Punta del Este. According to police sources, the motorcycle was registered in his name.

Prosecutor’s Charges

The Prosecutor’s Office has charged the suspect with robbery and over 10 counts of especially aggravated theft. The investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be filed as more evidence comes to light.
