Humanitarian Aid Delivered to Gaza
Tom Fletcher, the UN Undersecretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Coordinator, reported that 630 trucks carrying humanitarian aid entered Gaza, with half of them heading towards the north of the enclave.
These trucks had been waiting near the Palestinian territory for the truce to take effect, so they could transport aid to those in need.
An Urgent Response to Humanitarian Needs
Tom Fletcher emphasized the importance of immediate action, stating that after 15 months of intense conflict, humanitarian needs are at an alarming level.
Prior to the truce, Israel had been imposing numerous logistical obstacles and attacks to hinder the transit of trucks carrying aid.
Release of Palestinian Prisoners
As part of the ceasefire agreement, Israel released the first group of 90 Palestinian prisoners, primarily women and children, according to the Israeli prison service.
This release follows Hamas’s handing over of three Israeli hostages – all civilian women – who are now receiving medical attention at Tel Aviv’s Sheba hospital.
