Mumbai Indians struck gold on Monday, securing their first win of the season against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 12th match of IPL 2025. Ashwini Kumar was the star of the show, picking up 4 wickets for 24 runs in 3 overs, including the crucial wicket of KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane.
The match started with a bang, with Trent Boult dismissing Sunil Narine on the very first ball. Deepak Chahar followed suit, sending Quinton de Kock packing on the first ball of the second over. KKR’s woes continued as they lost 4 wickets in the powerplay. The middle order failed to rescue the team, and they were bowled out for 116 runs in 16.2 overs.
Ajinkya Rahane attributed the loss to collective batting failure. “The wicket was good for batting, and we expected a score of 180-190. We fought hard against the bounce, but our team needs to learn fast. Our bowlers did their best, but our score wasn’t enough. We lost wickets consistently, and after losing 4 in the powerplay, it was tough for the batsmen to recover.”
KKR’s struggles continue
KKR has slipped to 10th place in the points table, having lost 2 out of their 3 matches. Their net run rate of -1.428 is the worst among the 5 teams with similar records. Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, has risen to 6th place, with 2 wins out of 3 matches and a healthy net run rate of +0.309.
