The Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) announced today the opening of its first international office in this capital with the mission of increasing the support it provides to players during and after their major league careers.
"We are happy to further expand our international presence here in the Dominican Republic."said MLBPA executive director Tony Clark. "Our game is made better by the diversity of our baseball fraternity. The office demonstrates our firm commitment to continue advancing and protecting the rights of all international ballplayers.".
More than 1,200 players, including a growing number of international players, play Major League Baseball under the umbrella of the MLBPA, which recently assumed representation for Minor League players, increasing the current membership to more than 5,000 players.
The office is located in Torre Sarasota in the city of Santo Domingo.
