Meta launches its own verification badge for $12 a month

Twitter has made verified badges all the rage. Or at least that’s what it looks like if you look at the last meta release.

Goal checked it is a service that costs $12 per month! to verify your Instagram and Facebook accounts, both owned by Meta, and make sure your followers know it’s really you they’re following.

Meta Verified, which is currently being tested in markets such as New Zealand and Australia, does not include just a verification badgen, but the signature also includes a “proactive account monitoring”access to dedicated representatives to help you with account issues, as well as increased visibility in places like search and recommendations.

It’s curious that Meta so openly admits that the algorithm that decides what we see isn’t controlled by our interests, but can be manipulated for just $12 a month. Not that we doubt it, but something like this is rarely admitted so openly.

This is what you will get if you pay for the Meta Verified subscription:

  • A verified badge confirming that you are the real you and that your account has been authenticated with an official ID.
  • Enhanced phishing protection with proactive account monitoring to detect phishing individuals who may be targeting people with growing online audiences.
  • Help when you need it with access to a real person for common account issues.
  • Greater visibility and reach with emphasis on some areas of the platform, such as searches, comments and recommendations.
  • Exclusive features to express yourself in a unique way.

Meta Verified will be available for direct purchase on Instagram or Facebook in Australia and New Zealand starting later this week for $12/month on the web, but $15/month directly from the Android and iOS apps.
