MEO, NOS, Vodafone and Nowo: how much do operators earn for a service package?

The latest report published by ANACOM (Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações) reveals the panorama of telecommunications service packages. And one of the great curiosities of this report is to understand how much the MEO, NOS, Vodafone or Nowo operators earn in a service package in Portugal.

The average monthly income of the operators per subscriber of the package is €36.13 without VAT

ANACOM reveals that the average monthly income per package subscriber was €36.13 without VAT between January and March 2023. 2022.

In the case of the 4 and 5P offers (which include mobile phone or mobile internet), the average monthly billing amounts to €44.69 (excluding VAT), 3.7% more. In the case of 3P offers, the 2.4% growth raises the average monthly income of the operators to €28.19 without VAT.

Revenues from bundled services amounted to approximately 494 million euros (51.9% of total retail revenues). The year-on-year increase of 7.9% was also the highest since 2016.

MEO is the operator with the highest share of subscribers to packaged services

At the end of March 2023, MEO was the operator with the highest share of bundled services subscribers, with 41.3%. The NOS group follows in second place with 35.4% and Vodafone closes the podium with 20.4%. Nowo posted 2.8%.

MEO and Vodafone increased their subscriber share by 0.4% and 0.2% compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Conversely, Grupo NOS reduced its share of subscribers by 0.4% and Nowo by 0.3%.

In total, there are 4.6 million subscribers to service packages from all operators. There are 151 thousand more or 3.4% than in the same quarter of the previous year. The strong growth is mainly due to the 4 and 5P offers, with more than 177 thousand subscribers (+7.7%).

Offers 4 and 5P cover 2.5 million subscribers (54.2% of all bundled offers). They are followed by 3P offers with 1.7 million subscribers (36.8%).
