McIlroy snatches second place from Rahm

Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroythird classified this Sunday in the WGC Dell Technologies match play held in Austin (Texas), has snatched second place in the world golf ranking from Spanish Jon Rahm.

While the player from Barrika couldn’t get past the group stage, McIlroy managed to reach the semifinals and after losing to the American Cameron Young, he prevailed in the fight for third place with Scottie Scheffler, who remains number one of the world with 10.40 average points.

The Northern Irish player now accumulates 9.07, compared to 8.95 for Rahm, who this season has already won three victories on the American circuit and precedes Patrick Cantlay (7.13).who fell in the round of 16 against his compatriot Sam Burns, who ultimately won in Austin.

Burns, who was debuting in the WGC match play, aged 26, reaches tenth place on the list. He is the second change to the top spot after McIlroy’s promotion. In the rest there is no news: the Australian Cameron Smith is fifth, the Americans Max Homa, Xander Schauffele and Will Zalatoris are sixth, seventh and eighth, and the Norwegian Viktor Hovland ninth.
