Matthew Perry’s X account was hacked by scammers

Late actor Matthew Perry’s X account (Twitter) was hacked by scammers trying to receive cryptocurrency donations.

The Matthew Perry Foundation reported the incident in a statement posted on Instagram.

“We have received reports that Matthew’s official X page has been hacked and is redirecting users to a fraudulent website soliciting donations via cryptocurrency,” the statement said. “Please do not donate to this website or share the fraudulent posts on social media.”

They also clarified that MatthewPerryFoundation.org is the only website affiliated with the foundation and cautioned against donating to anyone else.

The link, which was supposedly intended to make donations to the “Friends” actor’s foundation, actually led them to a fraudulent website.

The identities of the scammers are still unknown and it is unknown how many people may have fallen for the scam.

The foundation of the actor, who died in October 2023, was founded to support addicts.

Matthew Perry’s cause of death

Matthew Perry was found dead in his pool in Los Angeles, USA on October 28, 2023. The news caused quite a stir as many artists and fans were surprised by the unfortunate death.

Nearly two months after his death, authorities announced that the autopsy indicated Perry died “accidentally” after consuming ketamine, the autopsy showed Friday.

“The cause of death of 54-year-old actor Matthew Langford Perry was the acute effects of ketamine,” said the Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner. “Factors contributing to Perry’s death include drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine (used to treat opioid use disorder). The manner of death is accidental.

Matthew gained great popularity for his role as “Chandler” in “Friends”, a series that depicts the experiences of a group of six friends played by Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer. Production lasted ten seasons between 1994 and 2004.
