Matheus Nunes did it with Manchester City

Under the masterful leadership of Pep Guardiola, Manchester City continue their relentless pursuit of footballing excellence. After a triumphant 2022/23 season in which they achieved the coveted treble, the Citizen team have made a determined start to the 2023/24 Premier League and sit top of the table.

The latest news, pointed out by Fabrizio Romano, suggests Manchester City are about to add a new gem to their already brilliant squad. According to English media reports, the club have reached an oral agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers to take over Portuguese midfielder Matheus Nunes. Although Wolves had rejected an earlier offer of €55m for the player, the deal is now set to be finalized for around €60m including incentives.

The young Portuguese talent has been in the spotlight since last Sunday without showing up for training in a clear attempt to ease his transfer to Manchester City. Nunes, 25, is looking for a new challenge after his outstanding period at Wolves, where he still has a contract until 2027.

Adding to this deal, it has been confirmed that Tommy Doyle, a promising 21-year-old City midfielder, will join Wolves for around €5.8million, plus 50% of a future sale of the player.

It wasn’t the first option, but it’s the one that best suits Guardiola’s needs

City had their eye on West Ham’s Brazilian Lucas Paquetá but that option was scrapped as an investigation had linked the player to suspicious betting linked to yellow cards in certain games. In the face of this setback, Matheus Nunes is emerging as an exciting addition to the team and promises to further strengthen the already strong midfield line.
