Precocity is common in swimming, but that does not mean that we must stop celebrating it. The last of the adolescents to climb to a record in Spain is called María Ramos, is 15 years old (she was born in 2006, when Mireia Belmonte was already a double junior world champion) and belongs to the Gredos San Diego in Madrid, a school in which studies are combined with swimming and from which the Olympians Jimena Pérez have left and Nico García.
On the first day of the Short Pool Nationals held in Palma de Mallorca, in the 50 breaststroke, a non-Olympic event, Ramos broke the Spanish record held by Conchi Badillo (30.35). At the end of the afternoon, against Jessica Vall (18 years older), the Madrilenian further refined her mark and left it at 30.28. His records were not the only ones in Spain that were broken. Lidón Muñoz lowered the 100 styles, which is now closer to lowering the minute (1: 00.33). The Castellón player had already beaten it three weeks ago in the Kazan European Championship (Russia).
Javier Segura was awarded the 100 styles (53.86), Carla Carrón, 16 years old and from CN Arzua won the free 400 with 4: 07.55, while in the David Benítez of the CN Terrassa the gold was hung in the 50 breaststroke with 26.98 and Hugo González de Oliveira prevailed in the 100 butterfly with 51.58. In the relays, Madrid NC won the 4×200 freestyle and the 4×50 styles in the men’s category. In the female category, CN Sant Andreu prevailed in those 50 styles.
Catalina Corró achieved another of the meritorious marks of the first day by staying close to the Spanish record of 100 butterflies with a time of 58.59. In the 1,500 men’s Carlos Garach, 17 years old and from CN Churriana, he prevailed in the fast series with a great mark (14: 45.16), eight seconds ahead of Ferran Julià, from CN Sabadell.
