Rahane Eyes Record, Can Surpass Gambhir in IPL

Ajinkya Rahane is on the cusp of breaking a significant record in the IPL. With 484 fours to his name, he’s closing in on Gautam Gambhir’s tally of 492. If Rahane manages to hit nine fours in his next match against the Rajasthan Royals, he’ll surpass Gambhir’s record. Eight fours would tie them.

Rahane’s stats are impressive – 186 matches, 4698 runs, two centuries, and 31 half-centuries. But his recent form has been patchy. In the 2024 season, he scored just 242 runs in 13 matches, down from 326 runs in 14 matches the previous year. For Rahane to reclaim his spot among the top scorers, he’ll need to tap into his 2012 and 2015 form, when he scored 560 and 540 runs, respectively.

Shikhar Dhawan leads the pack with 768 fours in 222 matches. Virat Kohli follows with 709 fours in 253 matches, and David Warner rounds out the top three with 663 fours. Rohit Sharma sits fourth with 599 fours. Rahane’s seven-spot ranking could climb with a strong performance against the Royals. The stage is set for him to make his move and leave a mark on the IPL.
