Riyadh: In Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the municipality raided bakeries in different areas and imposed fines on many.
According to Arab media reports, the relevant agencies in Jeddah inspected the breads and smoothies prepared in the bakeries and also weighed them, which showed that the bakery management was violating the rules.
The Jeddah municipality said it was receiving complaints from consumers that some bakeries had lost weight on bread and smoothies and that the owners were doing so in the lure of higher profits.
According to the municipality, the complaints of the people were proved true and action was taken against the bakeries. In some bakeries, paper bags were not available as per the rules and fines were imposed.
Similarly, some bakeries did not have good cleaning arrangements and were fined. The administration also imposed fines for selling light weight bread and smoothies in the market.
It should be noted that in Saudi Arabia, the weight of bread and smoothie is set at a minimum of 510 grams, the price of which is fixed at one riyal, weighing less than this is not allowed.
