MacBook Pro: Liquid Retina XDR screen, M1 Pro / Max chips and more

Apple today introduced the new MacBook Pro, completely redesigned, which features the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips.

New MacBook Pros are available at 14 and 16 inch models, They offer very high performance, both connected to mains and running on battery, and an excellent autonomy.

In addition, the new MacBook Pro features a Liquid Retina XDR screen, multiple ports to allow for more connectivity options, a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, and the best audio system a laptop has ever had.

Performance never seen on a laptop

The M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, introduced this afternoon, offer even faster unified memory and higher memory bandwidth for incredible performance-per-watt and power efficiency.

With its 10-core CPU, eight of them for performance and two for efficiency, and its GPU with up to 16 cores, the M1 Pro chip delivers CPU performance up to 70 percent faster than the M1 and up to twice as much GPU performance faster.

M1 Pro provides over 200GB/s of memory bandwidth, almost three times more than the M1, and can use up to 32GB in its fast unified memory. The M1 Pro adds a ProRes accelerator to its multimedia engine to render videos with incredible speed and efficiency.

M1 Max takes the features of the M1 Pro even further. The M1 Max features the same 10-core CPU as the M1 Pro and doubles the GPU capacity with up to 32 cores for GPU performance up to four times faster than the M1.

In addition, it has up to 400GB/s of memory bandwidth, twice the M1 Pro and almost six times that of the M1, and up to 64GB of unified memory. M1 Max also includes an enhanced multimedia engine with two ProRes accelerators.

Unmatched energy efficiency

Compared to the previous generation MacBook Pro, and on a single charge, the 14-inch model offers up to 17 hours of video playback, or 7 hours more.

The 16-inch model, on the other hand, achieves an amazing 21 hours of playback, in other words, 10 more hours. This is the longest autonomy to date on a Mac laptop.

Unlike other professional notebooks that reduce their performance when not connected to the network, MacBook Pro delivers the same performance whether it’s plugged in or running on battery power.

Optimized design and goodbye to Touch Bar

Its new aluminum housing precisely surrounds an advanced thermal system that can displace 50 percent more air than the previous generation, even at low fan speeds.

Thermal design allows the MacBook Pro to achieve outstanding continuous performance without overheating or making noise. And thanks to the efficiency of the Apple chip, fans almost never need to operate for most of the tasks that people typically perform in their daily lives.

The new MacBook Pro also includes a Black anodized double magic keyboard which elegantly highlights the illuminated glyphs on the keys and comes with a row of physical function keys that replace the touch bar.

The new keyboard is added to Force Touch trackpad ideal for working with professional applications.

120 Hz XDR Liquid Retina Screen

For the first time, the MacBook Pro features an impressive Liquid Retina XDR screen. Thanks to the mini-LED technology already used in the iPad Pro, the Liquid Retina XDR display even offers 1,000 nits of sustained full-screen brightness, an incredible 1600 nits of maximum brightness and a contrast of 1,000,000: 1.

The wide color gamut (P3) supports a billion colors, so color transitions are more gradual.

Also, the screen of this new Mac includes the ProMotion technology, with adaptive update rate up to 120 Hz.

ProMotion automatically modifies the refresh rate to match the user’s screen content to help conserve battery life, so tasks are smoother and response is quicker.

Both models come with a larger screen than the previous generation. The 16-inch model achieves a total of 16.2 inches with 7.7 million pixels, the biggest ever for a Mac notebook.

The 14-inch model, in turn, achieves 14.2 inches of active surface and reaches 5.9 million pixels, surpassing the numbers of the previous 16-inch MacBook Pro.

The screen has thinner edges and extends to the top around the chamber, so users have more space than ever for their content.

Greater Connectivity and MagSafe Returns

Both models come with three Thunderbolt 4 ports for connecting high-speed peripherals, an SDXC card slot for quick access to multimedia content, an HDMI port for connecting monitors and televisions, and an enhanced audio jack that supports high-impedance headphones .

MagSafe returns to MacBook Pro with MagSafe 3, which now features an updated design. With MagSafe 3, connecting a charging cable to protect your MacBook Pro is quick and easy.

Also, for the first time on Mac, fast loading can be used, which allows reach 50% charge in just half an hour.

With the M1 Pro chip, users can now connect up to two Pro Display XDRs and, with the M1 Max, up to three Pro Display XDRs and a 4K monitor at the same time. In terms of wireless connectivity, the MacBook Pro features sixth-generation Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0.

better camera and sound

The new MacBook Pro includes a FaceTime HD 1080p camera, all-time best on a Mac notebook, doubling resolution and low-light performance.

The camera system harnesses the power of the Image Signal Processor (ISP) and Neural Engine found in the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips to improve image quality, enabling people to have sharper, more toned skin.

The new MacBook Pro takes sound to a new level and its studio microphones are the best on the market, reducing noise for cleaner voice recordings and calls.

The hi-fi system with six speakers Includes two tweeters for clearer sound and four force canceling woofers for 80% more powerful bass.

The system, moreover, is compatible with spatial audio, which creates a nuanced three-dimensional acoustic experience. Thus, users can enjoy the sound of the cinema, whether listening to music or watching a movie in the Dolby Atmos.
