In sports like football, rugby, basketball, and baseball, you will often have seen substitute players play. The teams place one of their players present on the field on the bench and take another player in his place. The teams do this according to the strategy and situation of the match. It will also be seen soon in cricket. Although it will not be seen internationally but only during the domestic tournament in India.

The BCCI will give teams the opportunity to field substitutes in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 domestic matches starting in October. This rule has been called ‘Impact Player’. Based on this, teams will be able to strategically place one of their players as a substitute. This has come to light in a TOI report.

ICC has tested substitution in cricket in the year 2005. Then within a year this rule was removed. Now BCCI plans to use it in national tournaments and take it to IPL as well. It is said that this rule can make the game more interesting.

According to this rule, at the time of the draw, the teams must declare their game-11 along with four substitutes. However, teams will be able to use only one of these four substitutes. By the end of match 14, the teams can send the substitute to the field. To do this, the referee or fourth referee present on the field must give information at the end of the over. Any of the captains/head coaches/team managers can tell the referee this. The player in whose place the new player will be sent, that player will remain out of the entire match. That is, he will not be able to be seen even while he is on the field.
