La Vuelta will visit Sierra Bermeja after its serious fire

La Vuelta overturns with the recovery of the Sierra Bermeja after the serious fire that the region suffered between the months of September and October that devastated more than 8,400 hectares and in which a firefighter lost his life during the extinction work. For this reason the Spanish round will celebrate one of its stage finals of the 2022 edition in this area, as revealed this Wednesday by RTVE.

This end of the stage could be located on the ascent to Puerto de Peñas Blancas, in the municipality of Estepona, which was already the end of the stage in the 2013 edition with a victory for Leopold König. Nevertheless, The organization has revealed to RTVE that the ascent could be extended for four more kilometers to end at the top of Pico Los Reales, with which the ascent could reach up to 21 kilometers of ascent.

The climb to Peñas Blancas will be one of the great challenges for the peloton since, if we do not count the possible novelty of Los Reales, it is a 16-kilometer climb at an average slope of 6.2% with peaks of up to 20%. An ascent that could become even harder with the high temperatures of the Vuelta but that will once again give visibility to a Sierra Bermeja that, little by little, is closing the wounds of the serious fire that devastated the region and a vegetation in the area that awaits green again.
