Kuwaiti government gives good news to foreigners

KUWAIT CITY: Kuwaiti authorities have suspended implementation of a recent ruling on foreigners, saying work permits for people over the age of 60 will not be banned.

According to details, the decision to stop the renewal of the permits of foreigners over 60 years of age residing in Kuwait was canceled.

A senior source in the fatwa and the legislature confirmed to a local newspaper that the administration had revoked the decision to ban the renewal of residence permits for foreign immigrants aged 60 and over.

No legal decision has been made to ban work permits for foreigners with a high school diploma of 60 years or more or less.

The Directorate of Manpower is not authorized to issue rules and procedures for issuing work permits. About 14 months after the issuance of the decision not to issue work permits, the Department of Fatwas and the Legislative Council issued a High School Diploma or less. The decision to ban the issuance of work permits to foreign immigrants aged 60 years and above with educational qualifications has taken everyone by surprise.

According to the fatwa, the decision issued by the Directorate of Manpower Authority in August 2020 has no legal status as no one has the authority to issue the decision on the basis of lack of qualifications. Procedure is not authorized to issue.

Earlier, a number of Kuwaiti officials, citing the negative impact of the decision on the country’s economy, said that the decision was supported in order to prevent the resettlement of foreigners aged 60 or over living in Kuwait. This decision was declared wrong.

All those who had a temporary residence permit (extension of residence) will now be able to change their residence permits permanently, but the renewal fee has not yet been announced.

It may be recalled that a few days ago, the Chairman of Kuwait Chamber of Commerce Muhammad Jassim Al-Saqr had a special meeting with the Crown Prince of Kuwait Sheikh Mashal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in this regard.
