Jamaican Sprinting Dynasty Continues with Kishane Thompson’s Impressive 100m Run
Kishane Thompson has become the fourth representative of the Jamaican sprinting dynasty in the 100 meters, following in the footsteps of Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake, and Asafa Powell. Thompson’s impressive run, clocked at 9.77 seconds in a +0.9 wind, overtook Nesta Carter and secured his spot as a top contender in the sport.
Thompson’s performance was marked by his ability to accelerate in the final 50 meters, overtaking last year’s champion, Oblique Seville, who finished in 9.82 seconds. Thompson’s mark is the best of the course, the ninth of all time, and the third best of the Olympic cycle. Only Travis Bromell and Fred Kerley have run faster times in 2021 and 2022, with significantly higher winds.
Despite being relatively unknown, Thompson’s coach, Stephen Francis, is confident in his protégé’s abilities. Francis, who trained Asafa Powell, the first Jamaican world record holder in the 100m, believes that Thompson has the potential to achieve great things. Thompson’s background is marked by a history of injuries, but he has been treated with an antigravity machine and has managed to overcome his problems.
In the women’s event, Shericka Jackson successfully defended the national title by running the straight in 10.84 seconds, ahead of Tia Clayton (10.90) and veteran Shelly Ann Fraser-Price, 36 years old, who finished in 10.94 seconds. Jackson’s performance was short of the mark set by Sha’Carri Richardson at the US Nationals, who ran 10.71 seconds.
Thompson’s impressive run has set him up as a top contender in the sport, and his coach is confident that he has the potential to achieve great things. With his dedication and hard work, Thompson is poised to make a name for himself in the world of sprinting.
