Kavitha Launches Telangana Rashtra Sena in Direct Strike at BRS Legacy

Seven months after a bitter public expulsion from her family’s political empire, Kalvakuntla Kavitha has formally fractured Telangana’s most dominant political dynasty. The daughter of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao officially launched the Telangana Rashtra Sena (TRS) on Saturday at the Adhya Convention Centre in Hyderabad. This launch permanently splits the Kalvakuntla voting bloc ahead of upcoming regional elections.

Kavitha unveiled a party flag featuring yellow, blue, and green surrounding a map of the state. She commenced the day by paying tribute at the Amaraveerula Stupam in Gun Park. This honored the martyrs of the 1969 statehood agitation.

The platform centers on a strict five-point agenda. Kavitha promised free universal healthcare, continuous free electricity for farmers, and the immediate recruitment for 4 lakh jobs. This agenda directly challenges the legacy of KCR and her brother K.T. Rama Rao by aggressively reclaiming the original statehood identity, according to the Indian Express.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi immediately launched a digital counter-offensive. BRS loyalists posted images of counterfeit consumer goods on X. They compared the new TRS to knock-off brands like “Coolgate” and “Brislie” with Telugu captions asserting that the original cannot be replaced.

Kavitha was suspended from the BRS in September 2025. Her departure followed a severe internal dispute with K.T. Rama Rao. KCR had led the original TRS for over two decades before rebranding it to the BRS in 2022 to pursue national politics. Kavitha explicitly anchored her Saturday launch on the claim that the rebranded party completely abandoned its core regional identity.

How the TRS Rebrand Fractures the State Opposition

This development marks the first systemic rupture within the Kalvakuntla family since the formation of the state in 2014. The dynamic mirrors the recent division in neighboring Andhra Pradesh caused by Y.S. Sharmila’s defection from her brother’s party. By actively co-opting the original “TRS” acronym, Kavitha is forcing a direct confrontation over the statehood legacy. This creates a volatile three-way electoral contest. The incumbent Congress government now faces an opposition split between a defensively positioned BRS and a newly weaponized TRS faction armed with aggressive social justice platforms.
