We stage two of the best and most powerful smartphones of the moment to assess how their differences make them such desirable devices and best sellers.

Welcome to the clash between the top of the range Android and the jewel in the iOS crown. Here we will see, in six detailed points, the strength of each of these teams.

1. Design

Both the iPhone 14 Pro Max and the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra have a premium design, but they are substantially different from each other. The Ultra is large with sharp, well-defined corners that can be awkward to carry in your pocket at times.

The Pro Max is just as big, but it has rounded corners. The two are a mix of glass and metal, with the S22 Ultra sporting an aluminum frame while the iPhone 14 Pro Max is made of shiny stainless steel.

both provide IP68 protection against water and dust and both models only include the charging cable in their sales box. Yes, that’s true, none are sold together with the charging platform that we are used to seeing.

Another thing that separates these two flagships is the USB Type-C input. The Samsung model includes the universal port, but the Apple model insists on the charging port Flash of lightning. Apparently, the iPhone 14 series will be the last to not integrate this universal charging port.

2. Screen

the screen of 6.8 inches of the Galaxy S22 Ultra is slightly larger than the screen of the iPhone 14 Pro Max with 6.7 inches. Also the resolution is different, with the Samsung model providing slightly more at 3,088×1,440 pixels versus the 2,796×1,290 pixels of the Apple model.

Both screens provide a variable refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hzbut the Always On Display feature of the iPhone 14 Pro Max is receiving very positive feedback.

On the other hand, the recent DisplayMate award for the best screen of the moment won by the iPhone 14 Pro Max, ends up highlighting the Apple smartphone on this specific point. The irony is that the panel on this iPhone is made… by Samsung!

3. Processor, RAM and storage

At the controls of the iPhone 14 Pro Max is the chip A16 bionic while the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has the processor Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 of Qualcomm in the US and with the Exynos 2200owner of Samsung, in Europe.

In this duel, the A16 Bionic is clearly the winner, with benchmarks from various well-known platforms giving it a significantly higher score for both the Snapdragon chip and the Exynos processor present in the Samsung model.

In RAM, the iPhone 14 Pro Max has 6GBand the Galaxy S22 Ultra offers a variant with 12GB of RAM memory. There is no doubt that double the RAM will always be more beneficial for multitasking.

Both models have variants that start at 128GB of internal storage capacity and end at 1TB.

4. Camera Settings

We have reached one of the points that most separates the two rivals. In this edition of the iPhone, Apple has included the new primary sensor of 48 megapixels which is complemented by a 12 megapixel ultra wide angle and a 12 megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.

In turn, the Galaxy S22 Ultra has a primary sensor of 108 megapixelsa 12 megapixel ultra wide angle, a 10 megapixel telephoto lens and 3x optical zoom and a 10-megapixel periscope sensor with 10x optical zoom.

Samsung’s Ultra model is the clear winner, not only because of the higher number of megapixels, but also because of its periscope sensor that provides unrivaled optical zoom compared to the Apple model.

5. Battery and autonomy

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is equipped with a huge battery of 5000mAh with support for fast charging of 45 watts. The iPhone 14 Pro Max has a battery of 4323mAh.

But a larger size is not synonymous with greater autonomy, at least in this particular case. All the tests published so far in the web world indicate that the Apple model wins, by a significant margin, the Samsung model. According to experts, the iOS platform is effectively effective in saving battery power and is responsible for Apple’s victory on this point.

6. Price

It remains to talk about the delicate issue of price, which could be one of the most important factors when choosing one of these smartphones. EITHER iPhone 14 ProMax is available in Portugal for a price starting from €1,499 for the 128 GB variant and ending in €2,149 in the 1TB version.

On the Samsung Portugal website, the model Galaxy S22 Ultra with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage is available for €1,199.90and at the moment the most advanced version available is the one with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, which costs €1,399.90.

Both are positioned in the premium segment and their cost is a reflection of this. With a tighter budget and smartphone use geared towards photography, there is no doubt that the Galaxy S22 Ultra is the right model. As for the loyal fans of the Apple world, well, it’s all about budget.

Whatever your choice, there is no doubt that these two models are one of the best smartphones currently available on the market.
