Batsman Dinesh Karthik remains in the discussion after a brilliant performance in the series against South Africa. Legendary cricketer Kapil Dev has praised goalkeeper Dinesh Karthik for his spectacular return to the Indian team. He also said that this flamboyant batsman deserves praise for his performance in the Indian Premier League and the ongoing T20 series against South Africa.
Karthik had not been a part of Team India in T20 since February 2019. But he did a great job as a specialized finalist for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at IPL 2022. He scored 330 runs with a strike rate of 183.33 which took him to return to the national team three years later.
Karthik had 30 no outs on 21 balls in the second T20 game against South Africa. Kapil Dev said: “He has done so well in this IPL that he has made the selectors think look, you can’t ignore me. Rishabh Pant is a young player, he has a lot of cricket. Dinesh Karthik has experience and performance, so his praise is less than that.
Head coach Rahul Dravid also indicated that Karthik will continue to play the role of finishing specialist in the Indian team as RCB. Kapil Dev said that it is not easy for any player to continue playing with the same passion for so many years as he added that Karthik made his international debut even before MS Dhoni who retired from international cricket in 2020 had taken him.
