Reflexes

  • Shreyas Iyer scored 34 runs in both innings
  • Shot at the ball in both innings
  • He had a chance in the team in the absence of Rohit Sharma

Shreyas Iyer disappointed once again in the fifth Test against England. He was only able to score 34 runs in both innings. Shreyas, who scored two half-centuries in the Test series at home against Sri Lanka in March this year, failed completely at Edgbaston. Although Shreyas had a chance to strengthen his claim by playing a good inning, he didn’t.

Shreyas, who was included in the squad in the absence of Rohit Sharma, made the same mistake in both innings and went on to lose his wicket. Shreyas Iyer came out to bat after Pujara’s wicket fell on the fourth day of the Test match. By the time Shreyas came out to bat, India’s score was 153/4 and Rishabh Pant was standing at one end. Shreyas once again began to score runs and hit some good shots as well. But Matthew Potts got Anderson to catch him by putting up a shot ball.

Shreyas stormed out in both innings, but this time his Kolkata Knight Riders IPL coach, Brendon McCullum, laid out the master plan to take him out. Former KKR and current England manager Brendon McCullum urged his players from the locker room to catch Shreyas with a shot. Shortly after, Potts threw the same ball to Shreyas and the Indian batsman gave Anderson a simple catch near the half wicket.

Shreyas was able to score 19 runs on 26 balls with the help of three fours and returned to the pavilion. Earlier in the first innings as well, the shot went out on the ball, then Anderson caught it behind the wicket on the score of 15 at the hands of Sam Billings.
