Hunter Greene pitches six no-hitter innings for Cincinnati

Hunter Greene pitched six scoreless innings and the Cincinnati Reds came within six outs of getting their first no-hitter of the season in a 9-0 win over the Chicago Cubs on Friday.

Greene (1-4) matched his career high with 11 strikeouts and earned his first win in 11 starts this season.

Cincinnati has had 17 no-hitters, the most recent being on May 7, 2021 when Wade Miller pitched against the Cleveland Guardians.

Greene had the Reds in position to add to that list, but the Cubs had their only hits in the eighth off Eduardo Salazar.

Green walked two on 110 pitches. Outside of Nico Hoerner’s safety zone flyout in the sixth, there weren’t many hard hits against the lefty.

Salazar retired three batters in the seventh before Christopher Morel singled up center to start the eighth. miles Mastrobuoni singled with one out.

For the Reds, Cuban José Barrero went 5-2 with two runs scored and one RBI.
