Minister Criticizes Central Government’s Lack of Progress on Mobility and Digital Transformation Projects

The Minister for Mobility and Digital Transformation, María González Corral, has expressed her frustration and disappointment with the central government’s lack of progress on various projects, including the Atlantic Corridor, pending road works, and the deployment of broadband.

During her appearance before the Extraordinary Committee on Mobility and Digital Transformation, González Corral criticized the government’s lack of transparency, investment, and institutional loyalty. She pointed out that the government has not provided details on the master plan for Castilla y León, which she described as "once again a sign of contempt" for the region.

Atlantic Corridor and Road Works

González Corral highlighted the demand for the Atlantic Corridor, which she described as a strategic project for the region. She criticized the government’s lack of progress on the project, citing the veto of its inclusion in the Expanded Basic Network by the European Union.

She also mentioned several road projects that are pending, including the direct Madrid-Aranda-Burgos line, the Soria-Castejón connection, the Manzanal loop, and the completion of the electrification of the Salamanca-Fuentes de Oñoro line.

Broadband

González Corral expressed her disappointment with the government’s lack of progress on the deployment of broadband in Castilla y León. She pointed out that the region has a lower coverage rate compared to the national average, with only 83.28% of the population having access to broadband compared to 92.43% nationally.

She stressed that she has sent three letters to the Ministry of Digital Transformation to allocate a budget to improve DTT coverage, but has not received a response. She emphasized that this is the responsibility of the government and that the region is being abandoned.

Sustainable Mobility and State Transport Map

González Corral also criticized the draft law on sustainable mobility and the future draft of the state transport map, which she argued clashes with the approach of the map for the organisation of public road passenger transport in Castilla y León.

She pointed out that the state map implies the elimination of stops in 346 municipalities in Castilla y León, which she described as "condemning our rural areas to oblivion, as well as implying flagrant discrimination between citizens".
