The sprinter Fiordaliza Cofil won the Brussels stage in the Diamond League, after registering a time of (49.80) seconds, crowning herself for the first time in her career in this competition.
In this way, she joins Marileidy Paulino, as the only Dominican women who have won a stage in the important competition and is classified to the final in this modality of the 400 meter dash, which will take place on September 7 and 8 in Zürich, Switzerland.
Cofil, on this occasion, surpassed the stellar runners, Sada Williams, who won second place with a time of (50.15) and the Belgian Cynthia who crossed the finish line with (50.19).
Alexander Ogando
On his side, the native of San Juan, Alexander Ogando, finished in second place in the men’s 200-meter dash, adding more joy to the country on this day.
Ogando finished second in the event by timing (20.18) seconds, falling behind American Erriyon Knighton who crossed the finish line at (20.07) seconds. The third place was occupied by the Canadian Aaron Brown with a time of (20.22) seconds.
With his participation from Brussels, he improved on his performance from the previous race, where he took fourth place in Lausanne with a time of 20.09 seconds. Ogando also qualifies for the final stage in this modality, where the favorite to win the race is supposed to be Noah Lyles, world champion in Oregon and who has the best time for a runner from the United States, in this modality.

The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, congratulated Cofil, who qualifies for the final stage of the 400-meter dash, where the number two in the world, sub-world and Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino will also participate.
