The executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, Carlos Mercado, announced this Friday that as of December 17, Delta airlines will increase direct flights to San Juan from the US cities of Boston and Detroit.

These flights to Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, which will start on December 17 next, they will have an economic impact of around 18 million dollars between December and April 2023, and represent more than 25,000 additional seats, Mercado said in a press release.

"With this expansion, Delta will serve San Juan from five airports, thereby increasing connectivity to the destination and positively impacting our economic developmenteither"Market said.

The new route between Logan International Airport in Boston and San Juan will have a frequency of one flight daily until April 23, 2023.

The flight from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, one of the airline’s main hubs, will restart on a weekly basis every Saturday through April 8.

"Puerto Rico is one of the most popular destinations in the Caribbeanespecially for Delta customers"Amy Martin, vice president of International Network Planning for Delta Airlines, added in the statement.

"Now Delta customers in San Juan will have access to two additional flight hubs in the United States, where they can conveniently connect to more destinations around the world"abounded.

Likewise, Jorge Hernández, the main executive officer of Aerostar -the company that manages the San Juan aerodrome-, indicated that they will continue the "effort to expand the capacity of seats, frequencies and destinations for the benefit" of travelers.

"For this, it is important to continue promoting our destination abroad successfully and we will be collaborating with other initiatives that will allow us to achieve this goal"he claimed.

The airline will use a B739 model aircraft with capacity for 180 passengers on both routes. The routes add to existing services from Atlanta, New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport and Minneapolis.
