Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium opens its new grass

The Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium will open a new grass this Saturday within the framework of the 2023 Concacaf Women’s U20 Qualifier for group C, in which the Dominican soccer team will also compete.

The playing field of the largest sports venue in the country was out of service during the first quarter of the year due to the repairs to which it was subjected.

The Dominican Football Federation (Fedofútbol), the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec) and SD Concerts, a company represented by Saymon Díaz joined forces so that the giant sports venue has a new playing field.

Díaz and his company complied with the agreement established together with Miderec and Fedofútbol, ​​institutions that collaborated in supervising that all the repairs were within the sporting standards required by FIFA.

Among the repairs that were carried out are the replacement of the drainage and irrigation systems with new ones, as well as the placement of a new vegetation layer.

The new turf worn by the Félix Sánchez is a Bermuda-type grass, used on major world soccer stages, with the main characteristic of being resistant to tropical weather conditions.

In addition, the old grass was reused to beautify the areas surrounding the athletics track and optimize the warm-up areas for players and athletes.

The works were carried out since last January with the purpose of having the stage ready by mid-April, the date on which Santo Domingo and Fedofútbol would host the Concacaf 2023 Women’s U20 Qualifier, the development of Dominican professional soccer. with the Dominican Soccer League 2023 and other national soccer competitions.
