The Dominican Republic achieved six places in the Greek style for the wrestling tournament of the Central American and Caribbean Games El Salvador 2023 on the first day this Friday of the qualifier for that discipline that is held in the Parque del Este Handball Pavilion.
In addition to the six tickets, the wrestlers from Quisqueyan won two silver medals and one bronze, as well as three fifth places. With the result, the Dominican Republic is in second place with 20 points, behind Cuba, which has 25 points after reaching six gold medals on the date. The third overall position is occupied by Honduras, with 15 units.
In the 60 kilos, Yerony Liria Carreras took silver after losing 0-4 against Cuban Kevin De Armas Rodríguez, while Carlos Adames Palmer, in the 77 kilos, won bronze by defeating Luis Rivera Santiago 8-0 , from Puerto Rico.
The other silver medal was won by Leo Dalis Santana Heredia, who fell 0-10 against the Cuban Keldis Josef Roche, at -130 kilos. The bronze was shared by Gino Ávila Dilbert, from Honduras, and Paul Baltazar Morales.
Luis Alfredo de León finished in fifth place after losing 1-7 to Jair Alexis Cuero Muñoz, from Colombia, in the dispute for the bronze of the 77 kilos test. Johan Batista, in less than 87 kilos, and Enyer Manuel Feliciano each occupied fifth places.
The tournament will continue this Saturday, starting at 9:00 in the morning, with competitions in the women’s freestyle.
The wrestling qualifier has the support of Seaboard Energía Limpia, RH Mejía, OMSA, Gatorade, Vitasalud, Creso, the Ministry of Sports, the Dominican Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Tourism, Fedojudo and Handball.
Athletes from Panama, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, Costa Rica, Mexico, Barbados and the Dominican Republic participate.
