The death toll has risen to 12 in a stampede at a football stadium in El Salvador.
This information was given in a report of the news agency AFP on Sunday, citing the police.
It said the stampede occurred after fans gathered at Cascatlan Stadium in the capital San Salvador to watch a quarter-final match between Aliazana and Fez in the Salvadoran Football League. Hundreds of people were injured.
El Salvador’s National Civil Police (PNC) director, Mauricio Ariaza, confirmed to reporters the 12 deaths.
Citing preliminary information, the police say that the stampede may have been caused by the rush of football fans while entering the stadium gate.
Authorities said the football match was postponed after the stampede.
