China considers US memory chip maker Micron Technology as a threat to its national security. News: BBC.

The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), China’s regulatory body, said on Sunday that Micron Technology, the largest US memory chip manufacturer, has emerged as a ‘serious network security threat’.

This means the US chip company could face restrictions on major infrastructure projects in the world’s second-largest economy. China has taken action against a U.S. chipmaker for the first time, after tensions between Washington and Beijing have built up. It is also expected to have a major impact on the technology market.

About 10 percent of Micron Technology’s full-year sales are in China. In 2022, Micron generated sales of $30.7 billion, of which $3.3 billion came from mainland China. The US company also has factories in China.

Last week, Micron said it was going to invest 500 billion yen ($3.6 billion) in Japan.
