Central American industrialists update regional customs procedure

The Federation of Industrial Chambers and Associations of Central America and the Dominican Republic (Fecaica) reported that it has updated its procedures to comply with the most recent amendment to the Central American Tariff System (SAC)which governs exports and imports.

The update, notified yesterday, was necessary after the amendment made by the countries last January to the Harmonized System for the Description and Coding of Goods, used by more than 200 nations and customs unions to guarantee better control in border clearances globally, according to official information.

This modernization “is highly relevant for public and private sector delegates who play a labor role in the commercial activities of industries or customs entities,” said the executive director of Fecaica, Andrea Monzón, in a press release.

According to Fecaica, the changes basically took place in “tariff items, openings and product descriptions”given that it is normal for novel goods to appear that require new classifications, or goods that are no longer traded.

In total, the System underwent 351 modifications, mainly in the lists of “electrical and electronic waste, tobacco and nicotine products intended for inhalation without combustion, yogurt preparations, or unmanned aerial vehicles”.

Also in the nomenclatures of “products and approach to environmental and social problems, controlled chemicals, flat screen modules, placebos and clinical trial kits, cell cultures and cell therapy, dual-use goods, controlled gases, glass fibers and their manufactures, 3D printing machines, display modules, edible insects”, among others. others.

The lists will be reviewed again in five years “to include new items derived from technical or commercial progress, and to eliminate obsolete products,” said Fecaica, which brings together nearly 7,200 industrial entrepreneurs from Central America and the Dominican Republic.
