GCHQ, the UK’s leading intelligence agency, released a fascinating visual challenge as part of your recruitment campaignand invites innovative minds to join their team.
Created with artist Justin Eagleton, this initiative is aimed at those who have a unique vision of the world and can contribute something new Perspectives on problem solving.
“Puzzles are at the core of our vital work,” the statement said. “These capabilities represent our historic roots in cryptography and encryption and remain important to our modern mission to ensure the nation’s security.”
The puzzle consists of 13 clues of letters that, when put together, reveal a key message. This challenge reflects GCHQ’s mission to seek diverse and creative talent to address the complex challenges of today’s landscape.
The secret service GCHQ, recognized for its historic role in World War II, is looking to expand its team from its headquarters in Cheltenham. Alan Turing, famous for breaking enemy codes during wartime, was part of this prestigious institution.
According to some users who have tried to solve the puzzling image, the problem is a “real” challenge, as it requires having a broad culture and at the same time a sense of belonging and common sense.

According to Anne Keast-Butler, Director of GCHQ, “the right mix of minds” is needed to meet the challenges of an ever-evolving world.
For us this means bringing together people with different backgrounds, different experiences, different ideas and different knowledge and forming a team in which we can all contribute our part. It’s clear to us that this diversity is a critical mission,” said Keast-Butler.
“So we’re on a journey to make sure we reach and connect with people who have never thought of working with us. And today we’ve launched LinkedIn to showcase a bit more of our work and some of the incredible people who work at GCHQ.”
