Blinken visits Saudi amid relationship tensions

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has gone to Saudi Arabia on a three-day visit. He traveled to the Middle Eastern country on Tuesday, aiming to stabilize Washington’s relationship with Riyadh amid years of deep disagreement over issues ranging from Iran and regional security to oil prices. It is Blinken’s first visit to the Gulf nation after Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to restore diplomatic ties mediated by China. He is expected to meet with top Saudi officials as well as the country’s de facto ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. This is the second high-level US visit to Saudi Arabia in a month. On May 7, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan visited the country.

The news of the visit of the top US diplomat on June 6-8 came a few days after Riyadh, the world’s top oil exporter, promised to further cut oil production.
