BJP MLA's son caught red-handed accepting bribe

In the Indian state of Karnataka, the son of a Member of Parliament of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of 4 million rupees.

According to Indian media, Chief Accountant of Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) Prashanth Madal was caught red-handed by Karnataka Lokayukta officials on Thursday while accepting a bribe of Rs 40 lakh.

According to the report, Prashant demanded a bribe of Rs 80 lakh to end the tender process. He was caught red-handed while taking Rs 40 lakh in his office. Prashant has been taken into custody by the Lokayukta police and is now verifying the documents.

Prashant, who was arrested on charges of bribery, is the son of MLA Madal Veeru Pakshippa. The arrest of the MLA’s son is being hailed as a major political setback for the ruling BJP as state elections are due in Karnataka later this year.

The incident comes at a time when the opposition is attacking the BJP government in Karnataka over allegations of commission and bribery in government tenders.

On the other hand, it is being speculated that accused Prashanth’s father is the chairman of KSDL and the concerned authorities are likely to question BJP MLA Virupakshappa as KSD has been involved in tendering for procurement of raw materials. A bribe was received from the Chairman.
