Beware of this poster on compensation for anti-Covid-19 vaccines

Is it because Covid-19 cases are on the rise again in France? A misleading poster about vaccination against Covid-19 is circulating on social networks. Seeming to come from the British government, it promises compensation of 120,000 pounds sterling (137,000 euros) to people who have not been “informed of the health risks associated with Covid-19 vaccines”.

It features a logo that resembles that of the British government, as well as a link to a page called “payment for damage caused by vaccines”.

FAKE OFF

There is no record of such a poster on the UK government site. Contacted, a spokesperson for the British Ministry of Health confirms to 20 minutes that it is not “a government sanctioned poster or message” and that “the UK government logo has been used without their knowledge or permission”. The ministry condemns the approach: “This type of misinformation about the vaccine causes damage and costs lives. The evidence is clear – vaccines are safe, effective and the best defense against Covid-19. »

As for the photograph showing the two women, it comes from from the Shutterstock database.

The link that appears on the poster refers to him to a real page from the UK government website. This page, entitled “payment of damage caused by vaccines”, describes the conditions for obtaining compensation after a vaccination. However, a citizen cannot receive £120,000 simply because they have not been “informed of the health risks posed by Covid-19 vaccines”.

Can only receive this sum persons who have become “severely disabled” following a vaccination. The vaccination must have been done in the UK and there are age limits for claiming this payment. Receiving this payment does not prevent legal proceedings.

In France, it is the Oniam (national medical accident compensation office) which is responsible for reviewing requests from people who have received the Covid-19 vaccine. This is an amicable settlement, without going through a court. This public establishment, placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Health, can appoint an expert to verify the claim for compensation. The organization has six months to respond to a request.

The NHS, the British health service, highlighted that “millions of people” have received a vaccine against Covid-19 and that reported cases of serious side effects “are very rare”.
