BCCI sacks senior national selection committee led by Chetan Sharma

After the humiliating defeat in the semifinals of the T20 World Cup, BCCI has taken a big step. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday (November 18) sacked the senior national selection committee headed by Chetan Sharma. BCCI has posted on Twitter inviting applications for the position of national selectors.

The BCCI said in the statement that, “The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) invites applications for the position of National Selectors (Older Men). The criteria must be met.”

The statement further added that, “Anyone who has been a member of any Cricket Committee (as defined in the BCCI Rules and Regulations) for a total of 5 years will not be eligible to become a member of the Men’s Selection Committee. Applications must be submitted by 6 pm on November 28, 2022.”

When informing about the criteria for the application, the BCCI informed that there are 5 vacancies for the National Selector (Senior Men). The person applying must have played at least 7 test matches or 30 first class matches or 10 ODIs and 20 first class matches. Also, he must have retired from the game at least 5 years ago.

In the same month, India had to face a crushing defeat at the hands of England in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup held in Australia. After the team’s exit in the semi-finals, doubts were raised about his selection in the team despite many players being out of shape. Apart from this, there was also a demand to remove the selection committee.
