The Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores), considered the report of the Central Bank on the behavior of the economy in the year 2022 as a confirmation of the important contribution to the development and stability of the country that the tourism sector contributes, and the convenience to maintain and consolidate the style of public-private collaboration initiated with the creation of the Tourism Cabinet.
The report says that “the activity with the greatest contribution to the result of GDP in 2022 was hotels, bars and restaurants, registering a year-on-year expansion of 24.0% in its real added value”; achievement that was possible due to the credibility that was projected to the markets with the coordination of government decisions, especially the Ministry of Tourism, Asonahores and other private instances.
Public-private collaboration is the model to follow and improve, Asonahores points out, to consolidate the legal, fiscal and environmental foundations that serve as the basis for the tourism industry and have promoted its development and attracted a significant flow of international and local investment, even in this period of crisis in which the Dominican Republic has been an example to the world.
The management of President Luis Abinader and the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, have won recognition from the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the main international government body; and the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), which represents the world’s largest private tourism corporations.
Once again, affirms Asonahores, the tourism sector has tangibly shown Dominican society that it is a sector that contributes to development, and justifies the support it claims to move forward, and strengthen its role as an engine that moves the economy. and it is transversal to the rest of the productive apparatus, because its demand for goods and services is felt throughout the territory.
“The flow of investments and the growth in the arrival of tourists and cruise ships tell us that the Dominican Republic is certainly in fashion, and just as all of us together – as Abinader and Collado rightly say – we managed to overcome and emerge victorious from the worst moment of world tourism. , now what corresponds is to plan together how to seize the moment and adjust the sector to the changes in demand”, says the association.
