Android 12 is still far from being the most used version of the operating system

Google recently revealed the adoption numbers for the versions of Android that are still on the market. The latest data finally puts Android 12 on the table, but still far from the dominant version.

Although its successor Android 13 is weeks away from being released, we are still witnessing the main problem plaguing the Android universe. Fragmentation has not disappeared despite Google’s efforts to mitigate the phenomenon.

Android 12 appears only in the fourth position of the most used in the world

Google has stopped disclosing monthly Android adoption numbers. However, this information continues to be available from time to time through the Android Studio platform.

The numbers we’re seeing now were released in early August and are the most up-to-date picture of Android adoption around the world. In fact, we learn that Android 12 only has 13.3% From the market.

These values place this version of the operating system in the fourth position of the most used. A phenomenon that is repeated year after year and that reflects the existing difficulty for the latest version of Android to be the most common on users’ smartphones.

This is the first time that Android 12 is current in the official numbers published by Google. The data revealed in May did not include this version of the operating system, although previous estimates pointed to a share of 6.6%.

Unlike Apple, Google does not completely control the Android update processes for its users. Brands are responsible for these logistics and are not always quick in distributing software to customers.

Android 11 ranks first in the table

First in the table published by Google comes Android 11 with a market share in the 27%. Despite being two years old now, this version has grown even in the last three months.

Second comes Android 10 with 22.3% of market share. Next we have Android 9 left to be present in 14.5% of all smartphones in the world with the Google operating system.

As a curiosity, the old Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is still in force on Google’s distribution boards with a market share of 0.3%. I remind you that this version was released in June 2012, but it seems that there are still people using it today.

One last note to remind you that the final version of Android 13 should hit the market in the coming weeks. Still, judging by history, it won’t appear in Google’s official quotas for another year.
