According to a WHO-backed report, one in eight people worldwide suffers from obesity

One in eight people in the world suffers from it obesity, says a report prepared in collaboration with the World Health Organization. Over the last 30 years, obesity among children and adolescents has quadrupled.

According to a study published by The Lancet and supported by the world body, more than a billion people in the world live with obesity, meaning one in eight people and 43 percent of adults are overweight (WHO).

This trend makes obesity the most common form of malnutrition in most countries. Researchers analyzed the weight and height of more than 220 million people ages five and older from more than 190 countries.

In total, more than 1,500 scientists took part in the study, which analyzed body mass index, obesity and underweight worldwide between 1990 and 2022.

Obesity among adults has doubled worldwide since 1990 and quadrupled among children and adolescents aged 5 to 19.

The total number of children and adolescents affected by obesity was almost 160 million in 2022 (65 million girls and 94 million boys), compared to 31 million in 1990.
