Xiaomi is already the second smartphone maker in the world

Almost all Chinese smartphone brands have benefited from Huawei’s near-disappearance from the smartphone market, but none more so than Xiaomi.

According to Canalys, in the second quarter of 2021, Xiaomi was the world’s second-largest smartphone maker in terms of sales.

Samsung is still number 1 with a 19% market share, though Xiaomi is very close, with a 17% share.

Xiaomi’s shipments increased by more than 300% in Latin America, 150% in Africa, and 50% in Western Europe.

Xiaomi’s average unit price is still 40% lower than Samsung’s and 75% lower compared to Apple’s. Although the company has recently released more high-end devices and hopes to increase that number in the future.

Canalys says Xiaomi’s goal should be to increase sales of their next-generation phones, like the Mi 11 Ultra, but this is tricky since Oppo and Vivo have pretty much the same goal.

If their growth continues at a steady pace, Xiaomi could surpass Samsung to become the world’s biggest smartphone maker in no time.

Apple is currently at 14%, while Oppo and Vivo are at 10% each, with big growth as well – though nothing compares to Xiaomi’s 83% during the second quarter of 2021.
