75th year of Independence: A 220-feet-long tricolor ‘fly-past’ made of Khadi over the Hudson River and a giant billboard display in Times Square will be the center of attraction for India’s 75th Independence Day celebrations in New York, US. The Federation of Indian Associations NY-NJ-CT-NE (FIA) has announced several special events this year as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, which is being celebrated to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence. These events will begin with the unfurling of the Indian flag made of Khadi at Times Square on August 15. At the same time, like previous years, this time also New York’s famous Empire State Building will be decorated with tricolor lights.

Indian community organizations will also display a giant ‘India Day Parade’ billboard at Times Square on August 15 at its grand celebration to celebrate the 75th anniversary of India’s independence as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the FIA said. According to the FIA, a 220-foot-long tricolor ‘fly-past’ made of khadi will also be held over the Hudson River in New York on August 15. The organization claimed that this would be a first of its kind special ‘fly-past’ of the ‘largest tricolor’ made of Khadi on the Hudson River, which would be witnessed by thousands of people.
FIA Director Kenny Desai announced that Telugu superstar Arjun will be the ‘Grand Marshal’ at the organization’s 40th India Day parade on August 21. He also expressed happiness and excitement over the plan to organize the biggest ‘fly-past’ of the khadi made of khadi over the Hudson River between New York and New Jersey on August 15.
