YouTube announces the end of the stories format

YouTube says goodbye to its Stories feature, which was launched in 2017 and has not had the success expected by the social network. Despite the fact that on other social platforms, such as Instagram and Facebook, it has worked quite well. While the stories they leave, community posts like YouTube shorts are great alternatives that can offer valuable audience connections and conversations.

According to Google, June 26, 2023 will be the last day where creators can post new Stories. Through a blog post, YouTube officially announced the removal of YouTube Stories. After that date, users will no longer be able to publish them. Thus, stories that are already active on that date will expire 7 days after they were originally shared.

Focus on community posts and shorts

The company states that the decision has been made since they offer other content sharing options that connect with the audience, such as Shorts, Direct and the publications of the Community. have recently Expanded access to Community posts millions of creators and have brought some of the popular aspects of Stories to Community posts, like editing tools and the ability for posts to expire after 24 hours. Creators can strengthen connections with their audiences through new engagement features like polls, quizzes, filters, and stickers.
