Youth team leaves Guatemala Cup this Saturday

The men’s national volleyball team will leave this Saturday at noon for Guatemala to participate in the U19 Pan American Cup, where three places are available for next year’s World Championship.

The tournament, which will take place in the Dome of Guatemala City, will begin next Monday and will end on Saturday the 28th of this month.

The tricolor group will play in Group A together with Puerto Rico, Honduras and Guatemala, while the “B”, qualified as the group of death, will be Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico and the United States.

Nelson Ramírez, director of the National Project of Men’s National Teams, stressed that the group is made up of young people recruited at the camp they held last February at the Volleyball Pavilion of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, overwhelmingly from the interior of the country. .

The selection is made up of outgoers Romer Leandro González (Barahona) and Ruby Osorio (Santiago); central defenders Gabriel Minier (Mao), Johendry Rivera (Santo Domingo) and Ángel Gil Frías, as well as usher William Páez (Santiago), opposite Franklin Reyes (Moca), Sandy Rodríguez (San José de las Matas), Jean Luis Abreu (SD), Luis Miguel Jiménez (San Francisco de Macorís) and Allen Baldera (Santiago), as well as libero Franly Encarnación (SD).

The coach is Amaury Martínez, a virtuoso on the floor defense in his playing days, who will be assisted by Francisco Lerebourg.

Ramírez clarified that the trip will be made with funds from the Dominican Volleyball Federation.

The Pan American Cup offers three tickets for the highest ranked NORCECA teams among those who are not yet qualified to the FIVB World Championship.
