You, season 3: Pen Badgley and Victoria Pedretti struggled with intimate scenes due to pandemic (SPOILERS)

The filming of season 3 of “YOU” was not easy for Penn Badgley and Victoria Pedretti, the interpreters of Joe and Love in the series, due to the health crisis.

Making a successful series production in the midst of a pandemic is quite a challenge, as YOU showrunner Sera Gamble attests. “It was great fun to write this story and shoot it. I love working on this series, but this season 3 was by far the most difficult thing to do in my entire career, ”she explains to the American site. ew.com. The health crisis not only upset the filming of the Netflix series, but it also forced the writers to rewrite a whole part of the script in order to avoid certain scenes involving too many people on the screen.

“There were significant rewrites of several scenes throughout the season, in order to better negotiate those scenes which require the presence of many extras,” says Penn Badgley. But the most complicated scenes to shoot for him and his on-screen partner, Victoria Pedretti, were the intimate moments of the couple they formed on screen.

“I felt lucky that the start of their relationship was difficult, as they were learning to parenthood, because it seemed strange to get closer at first, even though they are supposed to be a young, newly married couple,” explains the actress.

“It’s not a show where you can say ‘no one is going to kiss. It will be ok’. It took us months to figure out how to shoot these scenes safely, ”says Sera Gamble. This specifies that the presence of masks on the face of the main characters was mentioned for a while, before the track was finally abandoned. Over time, the actors and the technical crews ended up finding their marks on the set. Even if the threat of the coronavirus remained in everyone’s mind. “It helped us to find ourselves on a shoot where a good atmosphere reigned, and which had no relation to the news in connection with the pandemic”, recognizes the showrunner.
